rgy also supports economic development
efforts statewide, and local and minorityowned
businesses through its supplier diversity
program.
■■ NV Energy contributed $5.4 million in charitable donations (funds used for charitable
contributions are allocated directly from allowable profit and are not a general
operating expense) during calendar year 2010. Perhaps more impressive, NV
Energy employees donated 30,000 hours of volunteer time in 2011, or 115 percent
of its goal.
■■ With NV Energy expending close to $150 million each quarter within the state,
many local suppliers depend on NV Energy for a significant portion of their business.
In turn, these local suppliers are estimated to spend nearly $30 million
quarterly in and out of state, supporting additional economic activity.
■■ NV Energy supports minority-owned vendors through the NV Energy Supplier Diversity
Program, expending $22 million in 2010 for goods and services provided by
minority-owned businesses, and over $42 million in 2011.
■■ NV Energy hires local workers who reside within the state. Approximately 13.1
percent of NV Energy employees – or 382 individuals attend or attended one of
Nevada’s colleges. Also notable, 361 NV Energy employees are U.S. military actives
or veterans.
■■ As part of its Powerful Partnership program, NV Energy awarded 134 $1,000-scholarships
to high school seniors. The Company has also donated over $1 million to
provide an undergraduate and graduate program in renewable energy at UNLV
and UNR.
